Taking supplements should be easy—you take what you need, everything makes sense, and then you reap the benefits. But in practice, it can be more difficult. Different products, different sizes, different measurements, different potencies…what on earth is what?
Keep in mind one of the biggest obstacles CBD manufactures face is that there are no set dosages. This is because everybody’s metabolism, absorption rate, size, weight and health issues are different. It is up to the consumer to do a little bit of experimenting on their own to find their right dosage.
We always recommend you use your tincture or soft gels as part of your daily routine. Either take in the am or pm or both. It is best to start by following the instructions on the label, if you don’t achieve the results you are expecting after 4-5 days you will need to up the dosage but remember less is more.
CBD labels can be confusing
The first thing to think about are the measurements. Depending on the label and delivery method of the CBD (drops, capsules, sprays, edible, capsules or soft gels) you may see ounces (oz) or milliliters (ml), and in some cases both. It’s important to remember that these totals are CBD-agnostic; that is to say, these totals simply state how much liquid in the bottle, or cream is in the tube.
If you ingest CBD via tincture drops, each bottle will include a dropper. A 1oz (30ml) bottle will typically have 30, 1 dropper servings. Droppers usually don’t fill completely but, this is 1 serving. Labels usually have Directions for Use, or Suggested Uses, some sort of instructions. In the Supplement Facts will be the amount of CBD in a serving.
Liquid or cream CBD products feature differing amounts of concentration. Unlike ounces or milliliters, these concentration totals are listed in milligrams (mg). This is the total amount of CBD that you are ingesting, and it is the most important number to consider because that is the number you will need to replicate should you choose to ingest CBD via a different method. A 20 mg dose is a 20mg dose regardless of ingestion method, whereas the same liquid oz ingestion can contain hugely different amounts of CBD depending on concentration.
For non-liquid forms like capsules, you don’t have to worry about concentration: each capsule will contain a specific amount of CBD. For that reason, capsules are the easiest way to ingest CBD, but may not be the best choice for everyone.
Gummies will state how much CBD per piece. But beware these are often sprayed so one piece may not have the same amount.
How much CBD should I take?
This is the biggest question on the lips of many potential CBD users. Unfortunately, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach. CBD amounts vary based on the type of condition you’re trying to treat, be it epilepsy, Huntington’s disease, sleep disorders, glaucoma, some other condition, or simple chronic pain. Furthermore, different individuals react differently to CBD oil, and more or less may be required based on how your body processes the chemical.
