The Hemp Basics

CBD is the acronym for Cannabidiol; it is one of over 80 Cannabinoids found in both Marijuana and Hemp. CBD will not get you high. CBD Oil is extracted  from the hemp or marijuana plant then made into products that vary in strength and delivery method. You can smoke it, vape it, drink it, eat it, massage it, insert it,  patch it, vape it, isolate it, cook with it  and you can invest in it.

It is now. But it has been a long struggle. What you can say on the label is controversial. The dosage is unclear. The FDA is working on regulations to help consumers understand its uses, how and how much to take.

Hemp was considered the same as marijuana and both were taxed( Marijuana Tax Act 1937) so high that no one could afford to grow it. Several theories about how newspaper moguls found industrial hemp a threat to their; and how they decided and lobbied that hemp was the same as marijuana because of its strong similarities and that it should be banned. However, they are not the same. The critical difference is the amount of THC,  Tetrahydrocannabinol, (the psychoactive compound that gets a person high) is found in both hemp and marijuana plants. However Industrial Hemp cannot contain more than .3% THC.  Up until the government decided that Hemp and Marijuana should be banned the use of these Cannabis plants dates back to ancient China. In the United States Hemp was America’s Golden crop, farmers were paid to grow hemp. Industrial Hemp was and is used in the manufacture of textiles, plastics, building materials, fuel, and food products, marijuana cannot be used like this., hence the term industrial hemp. Both Hemp and Marijuana have medicinal properties. They 2 separate plants. Because of hemp’s previous schedule 1 narcotic classification (right up there with heroin) growing hemp in the US was illegal. Despite Refer Madness and the National Institute of Drug Abuse a large group of scientist and laypeople continued to support the medical benefits of the cannabis plant. It was during the research at the National Institute for Drug Abuse that a series of major discoveries were made including the Endo-cannabinoid system. In 2014 Obama signed the Farm Bill which allowed for pilot programs for research into Hemps’ medicinal possibilities. Now hemp could be grown for research as long as it was connected with the Institute of higher learning or the Department of Agriculture. This research supported many of the potential medicinal benefits of  CBD. Outside the US the results of clinical trials demonstrating CBD indeed had medicinal benefits. People started manufacturing and selling a variety of products using imported hemp extracted CBD oil. At the same time many states had ruled in favor of medicinal marijuana to be sold in dispensaries.

Today there are 33 legal medicinal marijuana states and 11 states are allowed to sell marijuana four adult recreational use. Controversy over CBD continued until December 20, 2018 when President Trump signed to the Farm Bill allowing farmers to grow hemp. So it follows if you can grow it you can use it.

The market is now flooded with CBD products of all kinds, from shampoo to gummies, drinks to body creams. Research is ongoing, clinical studies abound. The list of uses and potential benefits continues to grow. The primary reasons CBD products are purchased today are for Epilepsy, Sleep, pain, and anxiety.

WHAT DOES CBD DO?

Pre-clinical research indicates that CBD’s potential medicinal benefits range from Pain Management and Epilepsy to Anxiety disorders, PTSD and Crohn’s disease. Since December of 2018 There are even pre-clinical trials mentioning CBD’s potential place in the fight against cancer. Many users report an overall sensation of wellness after a few days of use. Both Hemp and Marijuana come from the Cannabis Genes plant, however they are very different. Marijuana’s primary chemical compound is THC, the mind-altering, psychoactive cannabinoid. Hemp’s primary cannabinoid is CBD; it will not get you high. Hemp has a long history in the United States going back to the 1600s when people could actually pay their taxes with hemp and were paid to grow hemp. Hemp was considered America’s Golden crop.

How does CBD Work?

Human bodies have an Endocannabinoid System (EDS).  CBD works with the body’s EDS receptors which enhance its functions. The EDS helps to maintain homeostasis. Homeostasis is the process that regulates the body’s internal organisms to function and remain constant no matter this state of the external environment. For instance, while it may be freezing outside, homeostasis will maintain your body’s normal  temperature.

How much should i take?

CBD is very individual, dosages vary from person to person, depending on  metabolism, size, absorption rate, physical condition, and overall health. Less is always more. There are no were recorded overdoses of CBD however, large doses may make you drowsy. If this is the case, we recommend you take your CBD in the evening before bedtime. Also using too much CBD may magnify symptoms.

The best and most effective way to determine the right dosage is e is to experiment. You have to be consistent and take it every day at about the same time. We recommend that you follow the suggestions on the packaging for at least one week. (With the tinctures, a dropper full is less than half a dropper. The dropper will not fill all the way it is not supposed to. A half dropper is one serving.

If you do not achieve the desired results, then add another dropper mid-day. Wait a few days, if needed add another dropper during the day. Continue adding a serving every 4-5 days until you are satisfied. But remember to add slowly to find your perfect dosage. What works for one, might not work so well for another. Take your time and gradually increase the dosage until you get the results you seek.
